Levels 8C & 8D
New Graphemes for Reading – Set 2
Levels 8C and 8D extend children’s understanding of alternative spellings and reading patterns. At this stage, children learn additional graphemes and are introduced to split digraphs, which play a key role in accurate reading and spelling. These levels further develop flexible decoding skills and prepare children for fluent, independent reading.
Learning continues to be supported by interactive phonics games on iOS and Android, ensuring consistent practice and consolidation.
Completion of Levels 1A–8B, or equivalent phonics and reading knowledge, is recommended.

Children practise by:
• Identifying graphemes and split digraphs in words
• Reading and blending words with alternative spellings
• Repeating activities that build automatic recognition
The structured, game-based approach supports consolidation while keeping children engaged and motivated.
