Letters & Sounds – Set 6

Levels 6A, 6B, and 6C represent the final stage of the core phonics programme. At this level, children learn a wide range of vowel sounds and alternative spellings that appear frequently in English. These levels focus on developing flexible decoding skills, enabling children to read unfamiliar words with confidence and understanding.

Learning continues to be supported by interactive phonics games on iOS and Android, providing structured practice and consolidation.

Completion of Levels 1A–5B, or equivalent phonics knowledge, is recommended.

What Will My Child Learn in Level 6A, 6B & 6C?

In Levels 6A, 6B, and 6C, children learn that the same sound can be spelled in different ways and that some letter combinations can represent different sounds depending on the word.

Letters & Sounds Covered

• oo (as in zoo)

• oo (as in book)

• ar, or, ur

• ow, oi

• ear, air, ure, er

Children learn to:

• Recognise long and short vowel variations

• Understand alternative spellings for the same sound

• Choose the correct pronunciation based on word context

• Blend and decode longer, more complex words

Levels 6A, 6B, and 6C complete the essential phonics journey by teaching children how English spelling works in real reading. Understanding alternative spellings and vowel sounds reduces confusion, improves accuracy, and equips children with the tools they need for fluent reading, spelling, and long-term literacy success.

Please note: The pricing plans below apply only to Phase 3 (Levels 6A, 6B & 6C). Children will learn the following graphemes: oo (zoo), oo (book), ar, or, ur, ow, oi, ear, air, ure, er, with regular review sessions built in. This phase is typically taught over 20 sessions, each lasting 30–40 minutes: 11 teaching sessions plus 9 dedicated review sessions to support consolidation and confidence.
