Phonics Levels
Building Confident Readers, Step by Step
At Lingobirds, we help children aged 5–8 become confident readers through a structured synthetic phonics programme inspired by leading UK phonics systems. Instead of memorising words, children learn how sounds connect to letters and how to blend them to read and spell independently.
Each lesson is lively and interactive, using games, actions, stories, and guided practice designed for young learners. Step by step, children progress from simple sounds to reading sentences and short texts, building accuracy, fluency, and confidence.
Our goal is simple: not just recognising words, but decoding any new word independently.
At Lingobirds, we don’t teach children to guess. We teach them to read.

FAQs
-
The programme is designed for children aged 5–8 years who are learning to read or need stronger phonics foundations.
-
We follow a structured synthetic phonics approach. Children learn individual sounds first, then blend and segment them to read and spell independently.
-
The programme is carefully sequenced. Children progress step by step:
- Learning new sounds
- Practicing blending and segmenting
- Reading decodable words
- Reading sentences and short texts
- Developing fluency and confidence
Each lesson builds on previous learning.
-
Sessions typically last 30–45 minutes, depending on the age group. When necessary, an additional 5 minutes may be added to ensure children fully understand and feel confident with the sounds covered in the lesson.
-
Students generally attend 2–3 sessions per week to maintain steady and consistent progress. In certain circumstances — such as during school holidays or special scheduling needs — sessions may be increased to 4 or occasionally 5 per week, subject to prior agreement with parents.

Parental commitment is essential for success.
Parents are expected to:

Without consistent home support, progress may slow down significantly.
This programme requires partnership between teacher and parent.

Yes, we offer trial sessions to help parents clearly understand how our systematic synthetic phonics approach works and what they are expected to do at home to support their child’s progress.
The trial allows you to see how lessons are structured, how decoding is taught, and how home practice supports reading development.
If you prefer not to attend a live trial session, you may watch the explanatory video available on our homepage, which outlines how the programme works and what to expect.
To request a trial session, you can:
- Submit a request through the contact form on our website, or
- Contact us directly using any of the communication methods provided on our website.
-
Every child learns at a different pace. During lessons, we use differentiation strategies, extra practice, and targeted support to help each child progress confidently within the group.
However, if a child continues to experience difficulty after these support measures, we may recommend additional sessions to provide more focused guidance. In such cases, individual lessons are usually the most effective option.
Any recommendation for extra sessions will always be discussed with parents first to ensure the best learning plan for the child.
